The Military and Veterans Student Success Center (Located: Student Union Conference Center, Bldg. CR 31E)
The Military & Veterans Student Success Center serves as an advocate for military and veteran students, and eligible dependents. We provide resources and holistic support that enhances the academic, professional, and personal success of our students. In addition, we help streamline processes in order to ease the transition to college life.
We serves as a “one-stop shop” for military, veteran, and dependent
students interested in using their veteran educational benefits, speaking to a school certifying official, or requesting an “Out-of-State Tuition Waiver”. We also provide academic support services such as group study, peer tutoring, and a career readiness program. The center is equipped with a computer lab, student lounge and a multipurpose room. Additionally, the center supports the VA Work Study Program, advises the registered student organization “Veteran Owls”, and offers a number of engagement activities to help build comradery and guide military and veteran students through their next mission in life.
Need Help? Just Ask! (fau.edu/studentresources)
A new group of students and their families arrive at FAU each semester. In order to assist our campus visitors during this busy time, the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management and the Division of Academic Affairs partner together to roll out the red carpet with our Need Help? Just Ask! customer service campaign. As you walk around any of our campuses during the first week of classes, or during any large university event throughout the year, you will notice campaign volunteers wearing red lanyards. Have a question? Need directions? Not sure where to get services or purchase books? Stop in at a help desk. Ask a friendly Owl volunteer or check out our information clearinghouses at our Student Resources website and the interactive campus map.
Office of Family Engagement (fau.edu/family)
While the word “family” is historically defined by bloodlines, Family Engagement views families as open and inclusive. Originally designed as a family advocate, the Office of Family Engagement has transformed into a program that offers a multitude of student and family support opportunities.
Through multiple forms of media (newsletters, social media, and ongoing family training) our office keeps families connected throughout the different stages of their student’s collegiate career.
Some family events to highlight include our Family Success Conference, Family Orientation, and our Owl Family Weekend. Our Owl Family Weekend is a yearly event that focuses on celebrating the families of our FAU students and the support they provide. Traditionally in the fall, Owl Family Weekend is highlighted by on- site campus festivities, our Owl Family Tailgate, and an FAU football game.
