§ ACertificateofEligibilityfromtheDepartmentofVeteranAffairs(VA)andtheVeteran Benefits Certification Request Form located on the Veterans Financial Service homepage on GTC
are needed to process a student’s initial request for VA benefits. Please be sure to submit Kicker, College Fund, and any additional contracts or bonuses
paperwork. It will take at least 3 to 4 weeks for the VA Regional Office to process all
paperwork. Apply for your Veteran Education Benefits at https://www.va.gov/.
§ StudentsusingVeteranBenefitsareresponsibleforalltuition,fees,books,andsupplies
that the VA Benefits does not cover. All students are encouraged to apply for Financial Aid (FAFSA) to help cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, and supplies. Applying for Financial Aid will not reduce VA Benefits.
§ StudentsusingVeteranBenefitsareresponsibleforreportingtheirnewclassscheduleto the Office of Veterans Affairs at GTC as soon as a class schedule is obtained each semester/term. Failure to do so will delay the student’s monthly VA benefits.
§ Students using Veteran Benefits are responsible for reporting any changes to the Office of Veteran Financial Services at GTC: program/major, adding, dropping, or withdrawing from a class or classes, address, etc.
§ ItistheresponsibilityoftheVAstudenttoverifytheirattendanceonthelastdayofeach month. This is done by calling 1-877-823-2378. This will include Chapter 33 students. Go to https://benefits.va.gov/gibill/isaksonroe/verification_of_enrollment.asp for more information.
§ Chapter35(DependentofaVeteran)studentswillneedtoverifytheirattendance.Thiscan be done by calling 1-888-442-4551.
§ Post9/11studentswillalwaysneedtobeoverhalf-time(51%)toreceiveapercentageof their Military Housing Allowance (MHA).
§ StudentstransferringtoGTCmusthaveallofficialhighschool/GED/equivalency,college and Joint Services Transcripts (JST) or Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcripts evaluated by the appropriate office by the end of the first term enrolled. Failure to do so will prevent the student from registering for classes the next semester/term or certification of Veteran Benefits.
§ StudentsusingVeteranBenefitsMUSTonlytakethecoursesthatarerequiredfortheir program/major and maintain at least a 2.0 semester GPA.
§ VeteranBenefitsarepaidbasedontheclassescurrentlytakenandnotwhatwillbetaken.
§ AsofJanuary2021,VAwillnotpayforclassesthatastudentwithdrawsfromandwill
require the college to return tuition funds back to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
