                 EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
In a time of concern about safety and emergency preparedness, it is important to know what to do in the event of an emergency. For an emergency on campus, remain calm and follow these instructions.
Law Enforcement
When law enforcement arrives on the scene, it is important to remain calm and follow the officer’s instructions.
• Putdownanyitemsinyourhands.
• Raisehandsandspreadfingers.
• Keephandsvisibleatalltimes.
• Avoidquickmovementstowardofficers. • Avoidpointing,screaming,oryelling.
Be ready to provide the following information.
• Locationofincident,suspiciousperson,orobject. • Number of people, if more than one.
• Physicaldescriptionofanyoneinvolved.
• Numberandtypeofweaponused.
• Numberofpotentialvictimsatthelocation.
Fire
In case of fire, remain calm and do the following:
• Activatethenearestfirealarm.
• Call9-911(fromacampusphone)or911,ifpossible,andthencall
X5911 or 281.290.5911
• Knockondoorsandyell“Fire”asyouexitthebuilding.Closedoorsas
you leave.
• DO NOT USE THE ELEVATORS.
• Evacuateandmoveawayfromthebuilding.
Suspicious Person/Object or Active Shooter
• Evacuate–Haveanescaperouteandplaninmind.Leaveyour belongings. Keep your hands visible.
• HideOut–Hideinanareaoutofview.Blockentrytoyourarea.Silence your cell phone.
• TakeAction(lastresort)–Onlywhenyourlifeisinimminentdanger. Attempt to incapacitate the person. Use physical aggression. Throw items at the person.
Bomb Threat/Explosion
• Ifyoureceiveabombthreat,getasmuchinformationfromthecalleras possible.
• Call X5911 or 281.290.5911 immediately.
• Donottouchormoveanysuspiciousobjects.
• Clearthearea.Asyouevacuate,lookaroundforanythingsuspicious.
