Nine out of 10 employers indicate that they are more likely to hire recent college graduates if they have had at least one successful internship, and more than 40% of new college hires come directly from an employer’s internship pool. An internship is a partnership between the college and an employer or “host site” that prioritizes student learning throughout a work experience. The internship is guided by the employer’s expectation of productive work and by the college’s expectation of meaningful, applied learning. In short, the college promotes and protects student interests while facilitating professional work experience. 10
