                                                  • The VA can only pay for required courses as defined on the student’s Penn State Degree Audit. Degree Audits are sometimes called What-If Reports or Academic Requirements Reports. Students may run an audit at lionpath.psu.edu/. • Students who are enrolled in a non-matriculated status may only be certified for two enrollment periods. • Students may owe money to the VA if they change their class schedule after their credits for the semester have initially been reported. Any instance of a student making a change to his/her class schedule, even when total semester credits remain the same, creates a potential debt scenario. It is recommended that students consult their academic advisor and the school certifying official before making any changes to their class schedule. • Regardless of whether a student is eligible for Veterans Education Benefits, veterans and reservists may still be eligible for Priority Registration and a red, white, and blue military honor cord for commencement. • Qualified military veterans can receive KINES credits for basic and advanced training, even if they are not receiving education benefits through the VA. More information on obtaining your military transcript can be found at altoona.psu.edu/offices- divisions/academic-affairs/veterans-education-benefits/links/get-your-official- military-transcripts. • Penn State Altoona and the Veterans Administration are not authorized to advise guardsmen regarding the Educational Assistance Program (EAP). Students should contact the Education Services Center at their unit. In Pennsylvania, the phone number for EAP is 717-861-8894. • Reservists may qualify for Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA or TA). Reservists may not use FTA benefits for the same semester as the Montgomery GI Bill® Select Reserve Benefits/Chapter 1606. We recommend that students investigate which program will provide them with the greatest total payment for the semester. We also recommend that students begin to inquire several weeks before the start of the semester. In Pennsylvania, the phone number for the Education Services Center is 717-861-9329. • All eligible veterans, reservists, and dependents receiving Post 9/11 (Chapter 33), Montgomery GI Bill® Select Reserve (Chapter 1606), Dependents Education Assistance (Chapter 35) or Fry Scholarship benefits are eligible for in-state tuition regardless of residency. Appropriate documentation is required. Please submit to the Veterans Office, C105 Smith or email it to jxf15@psu.edu. If you are a veteran and you previously exhausted your GI Bill® entitlement, you may still be eligible for this tuition benefit. • Students receiving VA benefits under any program may be eligible for the VA work study program. This should not be confused with the federal work study program, for which eligibility is determined by FAFSA results. Several VA work-study positions exist within Blair County. GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. More information about education benefits offered by the VA is available at www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/. 12
