Spelman College | 2016-2017 Student Guide - page 10

A Welcome from the
Dean of Students
Greetings Spelmanites,
Welcome new and returning students to the 2016-2017 academic year. My name is Fran’Cee
Brown-McClure and I am your new Dean of Students. I am beyond excited to meet each and every one
of you and begin this process of learning and growing together. College is one of the most unique and
exciting times of your life. I want to you to make this year your best year.
One of the first ways to make this year your best year is to get active and get involved. Spelman is a
special place with engagement opportunities for everyone. Take some time to reflect on your
passions as well as push yourself with new adventures that you might not have considered before.
We want you to share your time and talents and to connect with the people, traditions, and culture
that are uniquely Spelman.
We have created this abbreviated version of the
What Every Student Should Know
Student
Handbook to provide you with immediate access to information about important resources that
support the academic mission, objectives, processes, functions, and general operations of Spelman
College. In addition, you will find the Community Standards and Code of Conduct which presents the
College’s behavioral expectations for students. Every Spelman student is expected to model civility,
commitment, and consistency as you engage with the community and/or leadership and service
beyond the gates of Spelman College. In addition, it is expected that you will hold your peers
accountable for being good citizens and upholding the high standards of Spelman College on and off
campus.
I want you to know that I am here to assist with any and every situation that might come up during
your time here at Spelman. Please feel free to stop by my office at any time. We can also grab some
Starbucks or chat over a meal in the Cafeteria. There is no topic too big or too small for us to handle
together.
I want you to know that everyone here at Spelman is dedicated to helping you to become a
successful global leader. I encourage you to contact me anytime at (404) 270-5133 or via e-mail at
.
I am very much looking forward to getting to know you and to partnering
with you to enhance the Spelman College experience.
Best,
Fran’Cee Brown-McClure
