LETTER FROM THE USF PRESIDENT
Dear students:
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the University of South Florida for the 2022–23 academic year – whether you are returning to USF or new to the Bulls family. The journey ahead promises to shape your future in many exciting ways, and I am confident you will find numerous opportunities for enrichment as you chart your path forward.
This is truly an exhilarating time to be at USF – the fastest-rising university in the United States according to data from U.S. News and World Report. I have
no doubt that you will find ways to become involved and make a positive impact in our campus culture – in fact, you will find more than 600 registered student organizations from which to choose. And I encourage you to pursue your interests—not only academically but also through extra-curricular activities.
In so doing, you will forge friendships that will add to your college experience and last a lifetime.
We are a relatively young university – founded in 1956 – but in that span USF has become nationally and world renowned for our research and innovation. In consolidating our three campuses in Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota- Manatee, students now have access to a broader array of rigorous and relevant degree programs at the baccalaureate, master’s, doctoral research, and professional levels – and earn those degrees from a preeminent research university.
Our newly adopted Strategic Plan, entitled “Pursuit of Excellence,” places a heavy emphasis on student success and we are fully committed to helping propel you on successful careers in a dynamic global economy. USF is energized by plans for growth on the horizon, such as a state-of-the-art ocean and environmental sciences building on the St. Petersburg campus and a new nursing/STEM building in Sarasota-Manatee. We are even moving forward with plans for an on- campus stadium in Tampa that would one day unite students, alumni and the community for generations to come.
USF embraces diversity and is an inclusive community that acknowledges the uniqueness of all individuals, their commonalities as well as their differences. And we are committed to maintaining a diverse student body at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
We are proud of our outstanding, talented USF faculty and staff and they are eager to further your academic success and career dreams, helping you find ways to continually grow and make a difference in the world.
