Money Tips for College Students:
1) Borrow only what you need. Remember, even if you’re offered a certain amount of student loans in your financial aid award letter, you’re not obligated to take the full amount. Join Team Zero to create a debt reduction financial plan: https://www.usf.edu/ financial-education/bull-2-bull-reduce-your-debt- challenge/index.aspx
2) Submit your FAFSA (studentaid.gov) before the January 1 priority deadline. Many qualified college students miss free money because they miss this deadline. Good financial management skills require good time management skills. Do not miss important deadlines. https://studentaid.gov/
3) Create a budget. It is a powerful tool. There are several online budgeting tools and spreadsheet templates.
We love our Cost Calculator that is available to help estimate your expenses within one semester: http://usfas.forest.usf.edu/cc/cc.html
4) Look for student discounts. Student discounts are available everywhere, even if it is not advertised be sure to ask. Bull2Bull has coupons in our office to local restaurants and business available for you to pick up today.
5) Protect personal information. College students are often the largest target for identity theft. Regularly check your bank and credit accounts and report suspicious activity. Learn more about identity theft: https://www.usf.edu/financial-education/resources/ identity-theft-prevention.aspx
We believe the peer-to-peer model benefits USF students, because who understands better than other students?
