paperwork that you will need to submit for the coming year. If it does not give you an option to check your 2017-18 status,
please verify that your 2017-18 FAFSA was processed through

sure you have submitted all required documentation in a timely manner! Check your emails and InsideBC account at least
once a week. If you have documents outstanding in Financial Aid then they will be listed in your InsideBC account.

BOG Waiver
Did you update your Board of Governor’s Fee Waiver (BOGFW)? Check your InsideBC Student Account Summary to verify if
the Board of Governor’s Fee Waiver has been processed. Please allow 24 hours from the time that classes are officially added
for the fee waiver to process.
California Dream Act
The California Dream Act of 2011 became law through the passage of two state bills. AB 130 relating to private scholarships
and AB 131 relating to Financial Aid Administered by the State of California.
The California Dream Act allows students who meet certain criteria (as defined by AB 540) to apply for and, if eligible, receive:

Privately-funded scholarships
•
Board of Governors Fee Waivers
•
Assistance from EOP&S, CARE or CalWORKs
•
State financial aid like Cal Grants and Chaffee Grants
Federal Stafford Loans
Federal Stafford Student Loans are state insured loans available from certain banks and lending institutions on long-term
repayment plans.
Federal Pell Grant
Federal grant program based upon need, cost of attendance and level of enrollment.
Federal Supplemental Grants
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant provides additional grant assistance for students with exceptional
financial need.
Plus Loans
Loans for parents with good credit histories.
Full-Time Student Success Grant
FTSSG is a new financial aid program for Cal Grant B and C recipients attending a California community college full-time.
Satisfactory Academic Progress
To be eligible to receive federal and state aid, you must be maintaining progress toward a degree, certificate or transfer.
Maintaining SAP means that you must: 1) complete at least 67% of the units you attempt (pace calculation); 2) maintain a
cumulative institutional GPA of 2.0 or higher; and 3) complete your educational program within the Maximum
Timeframe allowed.
CashCourse
A personal online financial tool to assist students with building essential financial skills. CashCourse promotes positive money
management skills to students and recent graduates. To access CashCourse visit:
Federal Work Study
On-campus employment is available through Federal Work-Study (FWS), a federally funded program for students who can
demonstrate financial need and enrollment in six or more units. Employment is used to fund college expenses.
Scholarships
More than 600 scholarships are awarded each year to students who file Scholarship Applications with the Office of Financial
Aid. The Bakersfield College Foundation, as well as community organizations and individuals, offer scholarships based upon
financial need and academic merit. The scholarship application process is now online. The application process opens in
