That is, items are placed on the Board’s agenda through referral from the
appropriate College and Board committees. Therefore, the openness of the on-
campus governance structure insures appropriate consideration by the Board of
matters of interest to the community.
The Board wishes to state again its desire to promote other opportunities for
students to communicate with members of the Board. It will continue to have
“Meet-the-Trustee” occasions which are open to all. The Trustee-in-Residence
Program remains active. The practice of trustees eating lunches with students
will continue, as will the arrangement for students to be present at trustee
dinners held at full meetings of the Board. Finally, the Board will continue to
schedule student representations at its formal meetings on occasion.
The Board believes that through this structure of committees and informal
contacts it remains open to the viewpoints and concerns of students. It looks
forward to the continuation of such exchanges. The Board also welcomes
suggestions from students or other members of the Carleton community as to
other constructive avenues for exchange between students and trustees.
Every effort will be made to schedule Board meetings when the College is in
session, that is, not during mid-term break. Students and faculty are encouraged
to take the initiative and invite Board members to attend social and cultural
events while they are in residence.
Adopted on February 8, 1987.
Carleton Student Association (CSA)
Every student is a member of CSA. The student governing body on campus is
the CSA Senate. CSA’s goals are to advocate for student interests with other
governing bodies on campus, improve students’ quality of life by offering
services such as a textbook exchange, daily newspapers, and vending machines,
and to allocate the annual CSA Activity Fee to student organizations on campus.
The CSA website (csa.carleton.edu) is updated regularly with minutes from our
meetings, current open appointments, funding information, and many other
things.
CSA is responsible for chartering Student Organizations. Information about
organizations is available on the CSA website, including a current list of Student
Organizations on campus with contact names and information. If the
organization you would like to join does not exist, visit the website to learn
about how to start your own student organization!
