Do I need to purchase the Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher)?
No. The University uses Office 365 as our email platform, and through that service, students can download the Microsoft Office suite for free. Students may log into their account by visiting portal.office.com to download the Microsoft Office suite and/or visit SCS in Kearns 113 for further assistance.

Can I bring my computer? If so, what kind do you recommend?
Yes, nearly all students bring their own computers to campus. All students enrolling in computer science, information systems or information technology are required to have a laptop/notebook computer. It is recommended that all graphic design majors acquire a MacBook Pro. Laptop computers are strongly recommended for chemistry, marine science, mathematics and Wall College
Do I need antivirus software? Is it provided?
All students are required to have an up- to-date antivirus software application on their computers. We recommend that you prepare your computer with antivirus software before coming on campus. Free antivirus software is provided to each student through the University. Please visit coastal.edu/scs to download and install free antivirus software. For further assistance, please visit Kearns 113.

How do I prepare my devices (laptop, tablet, smartphone) to use the campus network?
Students are required to maintain an up- to-date operating system on all devices and are required to use and regularly update antivirus software on computers/ laptops. Antivirus software is available for students to download at no charge through the University by visiting coastal.edu/scs. Once student’s devices have met the two requirements, follow the directions on the SCS website for connecting to University’s wireless network at coastal.edu/scs/ wireless. Please visit SCS in Kearns 113 for further assistance, if needed.

 What resources are available in campus computer labs?
Students may use a variety of computer labs around campus for their computing and printing needs: Wall 204, Edwards 171, Bryan Information Commons/Library and Kearns 113. Each lab is equipped with various resources, including printers, to meet your needs. Visit coastal.edu/scs/ computinglabs for more information about the resources available in each individual computing lab location.
