The Financial Aid Office at Compton College assists students who have the ability to
benefit from postsecondary instruction and who, without financial aid, would otherwise
be unable to attend. To apply for financial aid, visit fafsa.ed.gov.
Financial Assistance
Compton College provides extensive student support services designed to help students
meet the costs of attendance. The Financial Aid Office provides workshops and
information about the types of financial aid available which include grants, work study
and scholarships. To help students better understand financial aid and the entire
application process, the California Student Aid Commission publishes free materials
which are available in the Financial Aid Office (E-17) and online at

studentaid.ed.gov. These materials provide general and detailed information about who
qualifies for financial aid, the various types of financial aid, how to apply for financial aid,
as well as a calendar of application deadlines.
Ability to Benefit (ATB)
Compton College accepts for admission as regular students, persons who do not have a
high school diploma or the recognized equivalent, and who are beyond the age of
compulsory school attendance in California. When students apply for financial aid, the
college is required by Public Law 102-26, Section 2 to determine whether they have the
ability to benefit from the education and training offered. College students who were enrolled
in Federal Title IV programs of study prior to July 1, 2012 at an eligible institution may meet
the Ability to Benefit (ATB) requirement by achieving a satisfactory score on the
Computerized Placement Test (CPT), Accuplacer. For more information about this test,

Additionally, for eligible continuing college students, the ATB requirement may be met by
completing six (6) college degree applicable units prior to July 1, 2012. For more information,
call 310-900-1600, ext. 2076 to schedule an appointment with your academic counselor to
determine if you meet the criteria or visit Counseling Services in the Administration Building.
Note: Compton College does not accept ATB test scores from other schools.
