Northeast State Online/Cohort Programs

online and cohort programs for students who want more flexibility in achieving their academic and
career goals. Options include classes delivered in a fully online format and classes delivered in an

Nursing Division
(Room RCHP208, Kingsport) – Northeast State Community College offers two
options for students wishing to pursue the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Degree, the
Traditional Option and the LPN to RN Option.
Traditional Option: After being accepted by the College, students are required to submit an
application to the Nursing program. Nursing Program Traditional Option applications are accepted
in the summer semester with accepted students enrolling into nursing specific coursework in the fall
semester. Nursing courses are completed in four semesters (fall, spring, fall, spring). After
successful completion of coursework, students are awarded with an Associate of Applied Science in
Nursing Degree.
LPN to RN Option: After being accepted by the College, specific pre-nursing general education
courses must be completed prior to making application to the Nursing program. Nursing Program
LPN to RN Option applications are accepted in the spring semester with accepted students enrolling
into nursing specific coursework in the summer semester. Nursing courses are completed in three
semesters (summer, fall, spring). After successful completion of coursework, students are awarded
with an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Degree.
The Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Degree prepares individuals to become Registered
Nurses. After completing the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Degree, individuals are
qualified to take the National Council Licensing Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN)
following approval by the State Board of Nursing. Upon successful completion of the NCLEX-RN,
one holds the title of a Registered Nurse (RN) and may enter the healthcare industry as an RN. For

Online Classes
(Room F100, Blountville) – Northeast State's regular schedule of classes includes
Internet courses that offer students the opportunity to complete all or part of their coursework via
the Internet. These online courses are different from the TN eCampus courses. Classes follow a
traditional schedule or may meet only at selected times in a synchronous format throughout the
semester (students may meet with instructors four to five times on campus). To complete all
requirements for these courses, students must be able to access the Internet through the College's
facilities or through securing access on their own. In addition, beginning with the Fall 2017
semester, students will have the opportunity to earn an AS General degree over four fall and spring
semesters in a fully online* format (no in-class meetings required). These courses differ from TN
eCampus courses in that all classes are staffed by Northeast State instructors. For more information,
