14 Many parking spaces are reserved for vehicles legally displaying state-issued handicap plates or placards. Students with disabilities who need special parking considerations and who do not have a state-issued plate or placard should contact the Penn State Altoona police. RESIDENT HALL STUDENT PARKING • Red Permits: residents of Oak Hall must park in the Larch Lot • Yellow Permits: residents of Cedar, Maple, and Spruce Halls must park in Rider Lot • If Larch or Rider Lots are full, residence hall students may park in the Ivy or Juniata Gap Lots until a space becomes available in their designated lot, but must not exceed a 24-hour period COMMUTER STUDENT PARKING Commuter students will be issued a green permit and may park in the Cypress, Hawthorn, Ivy, Juniata Gap, and Science Lots. Students living at Nittany Pointe, Pennview Suites, or Wehnwood Court are not permitted to park in any campus lot from 6 a.m. –5 p.m., Monday – Friday, unless they purchase a special commuter permit each semester or park at one of the designated meter spaces in the Ivy, Hawthorn, or Juniata Gap Lots. Students living at these locations who would like to park on campus after 5 p.m. must purchase a restricted commuter parking permit or park at one of the designated meter spaces. DOWNTOWN STUDENT PARKING Students utilizing the Altoona Parking Authority parking lots located in downtown Altoona must purchase and display a parking permit issued by Penn State Altoona. Students attending classes downtown are directed to park in one of the following two locations: • Altoona Transportation Center Parking Garage located at the corner of 11th Avenue and 13th Street (NOT the parking garage at the corner of 12th Avenue and 13th Street) • The Red Lot Located across 12th Avenue from the Aaron Building and Devorris Downtown Center, behind the Yellow Lot. Students are not permitted to park in the Yellow Lot or the Penn Lot. Parking rules and ticketing will be enforced in all parking areas by the Altoona Parking Authority. Street parking is free weekdays after 5 p.m. and all day on the weekends. Students may also utilize the free Amtran buses that run between the Ivyside and downtown campuses with their student ID. These busses run Monday – Friday, 6 a.m. – 5 p.m. STUDENT METERED PARKING Parking meters for student use are located in the upper Ivy Parking Lot, the Hawthorn Lot, and the Juniata Gap Lot. They are intended for use by students who have not yet purchased a Penn State Altoona parking permit but find it necessary to park on campus. Students using these meters are not to exceed the posted time limits. Vehicles displaying a valid Penn State Altoona parking permit are not permitted to park in the metered section. VISITOR AND GUEST PARKING Family members/guests or students from a Penn State campus are NOT considered visitors and may NOT park in the visitor sections. Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., students and their family members/guests who do not possess a current parking permit must come to the Penn State Altoona University Police office to get a temporary permit to park in a designated lot. Family members/guests of students residing in Cedar, Maple, or Spruce Halls must park in the Rider Lot and family members/guests of students living in Oak Hall must park in the Larch Lot.
