Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a 7-year program funded by the Department of Education to expand educational opportunities and to assist students in becoming college eligible and then academically successful in higher education.
The UTEP GEAR UP Program partners with Ysle- ta ISD, business and community organizations to instill the desire for higher education in students at an early age and to encourage greater parental involvement in education. The UTEP GEAR UP grant currently serves over 2,750 students who are in the 7th grade and within 9 Middle Schools. We will continue to serve these students as they progress toward high school graduation.

The High School Equivalency Program (HEP) is an academic program designed to meet the spe- cial educational needs of migrant and seasonal farm workers and their immediate family mem- bers in pursuit of the high school equivalency cer- tificate (HSE). HEP’s goal is to assist these stu- dents in preparation and successful completion of HSE exams and help students to enroll four-year universities, two-year community colleges, to gain upgraded employment, enroll in vocational/ technical schools, or military service. HEP offers classes throughout the day in-person and remote.
The High School Equivalency Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
El programa académico de High School Equiva- lency Program (HEP) está diseñado para proveer servicios educativos a los trabajadores agríco-
las de temporada y sus familiares directos que deseen obtener el certificado de equivalencia de la escuela preparatoria (HSE) de los Estados Unidos de América. El objetivo principal del programa
es ayudarlos a prepararse para tomar el examen HSE y ayudar a los estudiantes sobre opciones para seguir estudios universitarios, vocacionales y en el servicio militar, así como la ubicación en el mercado de trabajo. HEP ofrece clases durante todo el día de forma presencial y remota. El programa HEP está patrocinado por el Departa- mento de Educación.
