Student Recreation Center Front Desk: 812-888-6248 Director of Campus Recreation and Facilities Office: 812-888-4957 Assistant Facilities Coordinators Office: 812-888-5470 Hours of Operation The Student Recreation Center will be open for recreation and fitness activities from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekdays (Monday-Thursday), 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Saturday, and Noon – 10pm on Sunday. General Policies The Donald G. Bell Student Recreation Center (including the outdoor intramural/recreational areas) is provided for the use of members of the University community. The Director of Campus Recreation and Facilities is responsible for scheduling all activities/areas within the Student Recreation Center and associated facilities. Any person desiring to use any of the facilities should contact the Facilities Office by calling 812-888-4957. 1. Students - All Fall/Spring students who are currently enrolled with activity fees paid may enter and utilize the facilities upon scanning of a VALID V.U. PICTURE ID. 2. Guests - Student guests and faculty/staff guests must sign in with the ID Desk and are limited to an occasional visitor. One visitor per eligible user. Consult the posted rules on semester schedules for the specific rules and regulations. 3. Equipment Check-out - Equipment may be checked out of the Equipment Room by presenting and leaving a valid ID card (student/faculty/staff). Individuals will complete a check-out from and accept responsibility for the equipment. Damage or late fees may be assessed for misuse or unreturned items. A full array of equipment is available. 4. Towels - Workout towels may be checked out from the equipment room in the SRC for no charge which allows users to wipe down their equipment after use. It is considered an equipment item and is handled exactly as another piece of equipment. 5. Lockers - All lockers in the SRC are for day use only. Locks may not be left on these lockers overnight. Free Locks available from the Equipment Room. 6. Steam Rooms - Steam rooms are located in each locker room. Please use a towel to sit on while using this room. 7. Track - The running/walking track is for regular athletic type shoes. TRACK SPIKES ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THIS SURFACE. Severe damage can result. 8. Activity Courts - May be set-up for basketball, volleyball, tennis, dodgeball, Frisbee and a wide variety of other activities. Ask a student employee for assistance with the courts. Throwing of objects cannot pose a danger to others or to the facility. Use common sense here please. 9. Fitness Centers - A large array of free weight, selectorized weight machines, cardio equipment, and a room full of additional fitness related equipment is ready for your use. You must use this equipment for its intended purpose and please wipe off the equipment after you use it. If unfamiliar with any of the equipment, please ask for help at the ID Desk and they can have an attendant assist you. 10. Table Tennis - A ping pong table is available along with equipment at all times. 11. Badminton - We offer two sets of standards and nets for users to play badminton. Official courts are not laid down on the floor however these standards can be set up in any usable area. 12. Foosball Table - A table soccer table is available for use next to the equipment room. Rules for Student Recreation Center 1. ID’s - All users will have on their person; their current Blazer One VU ID card at all times, and will present it upon entering, to the appropriate building employee. 2. Appropriate Clothing/Footwear a. Clothing: All users will dress in the appropriate athletic attire for the activity in which they are participating. T-shirts, shorts, socks, warm-ups, must be worn while participating. No jeans or dresses. b. Footwear: Proper clean, non-marking athletic footwear appropriate for the activity will be worn. 3. Behavior - While in the facilities, users will follow behavioral expectations of the University. a. Basketball Dunking is allowed, however, hanging on or breaking down the rim is abusive and excessive, and therefore will not be allowed. b. Foul Language and Profanity not allowed in the P.E. Complex. c. Any student or user caught fighting will be asked to leave the facility and may face suspension of use and University reprimands. 4. Smoking/Tobacco - This is a tobacco free facility (Smoking and chewing). Chewing inside the facility will not be tolerated. 5. Reservations for Court Space - Groups and organizations may reserve space, if available, by calling 812-888-4957. 19
