                Aquatic Center Aquatic Center Office: 812-888-4426 Director of Campus Recreation and Facilities Office: 812-888-4957 Assistant Facilities Coordinators Office: 812-888-5470 The Aquatic Center provides the University with an outstanding pool facility. This 304,000-gallon pool (85 degrees) and 4,000-gallon hot tub (102 degrees) provide for classroom activities, athletic team training, intramural and recreational opportunities for many users and groups. Staffed by certified lifeguards at all times the aquatic center features a 6 lane pool (3’8” - 12’ depth), shorter 3 lanes swim area, a zip line, climbing wall, basketball goals, volleyball court, water polo, one meter diving board, outdoor patio area for sunning or relaxing, vortex whirlpool area with tubes, aqua massage bench, locker rooms with lockers, showers, rest-rooms and swimsuit water extractor, cubby holes for storage poolside. The Center is handicap accessible in three ways: PAL Lift, ADA Ramp, and 2 Handrails Steps Entry. A modern sound system supports all activities. The pool layout is stunning and viewable from the hallway as are the live plantings throughout the facility. State of the art filtration systems at work along with ultraviolet units to kill off bacteria provide clean, safe water to use. Air Temperature is kept 2 degrees above the water temperature year-round. Hours of Operation Hours of operation typically depend on lifeguard availability. A typical schedule each semester will resemble the following hours: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. weekdays (Monday - Friday). Saturday and Sunday 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. Summer schedule for the pool will vary depending on camp times and lifeguard availability. The pool often will have multiple activities going on at the same time and various parts of the aquatic center being shared by various classes, groups or activities. Please consult the semester schedules for the exact times the pool is available each day, each semester. Holiday schedules will be distributed during holiday periods throughout the year. General Policies The Aquatic Center and related areas are available without charge to the VU community as outlined below. See Learning Resource Center (LRC) or Human Resources to obtain a valid ID if you do not already have one. The Director of Campus Recreation and Facilities is responsible for scheduling all activities/areas within the Aquatic Center. Any person or group desiring to schedule any of the facilities should contact the office by calling 812-888-4957. 1. Students - All Fall/Spring students who are currently enrolled with activity fees paid may enter and utilize the facilities upon scanning of a VALID V.U. PICTURE ID. 2. Guests - Student guests and faculty/staff guests must sign in with the ID Desk and are limited to an occasional visitor. One visitor per eligible user. Consult the posted rules on semester schedules for the specific rules and regulations. 3. Equipment Check-out - Equipment may be checked out of the Equipment Room by presenting and leaving a valid ID card (student/faculty/staff). Individuals will complete a check-out form and accept responsibility for the equipment. Damage or late fees may be assessed for misuse or unreturned items. A full array of equipment is available. 4. Towels - Towels may be checked out from the equipment room in the Aquatic Center for no charge. It is considered an equipment item and is handled exactly as another piece of equipment. 5. Lockers - All lockers in the Aquatic Center are for day use only. Locks may not be left on these lockers overnight. Free Locks are available from the Equipment Room. 6. Rules for Aquatic Center 7. Pool rules are posted at the facility. Lap Swimming will be promoted and supported by offering lanes for use at certain times. You must avoid the area classes are taking place in. Proper pool conduct is required at all times. LIFEGUARDS ARE ON DUTY FOR YOUR HEALTH AND SAFETY. PLEASE FOLLOW THEIR INSTRUCTIONS. Users must take a CLEANSING SOAPY SHOWER PRIOR TO USE. Users must wear clean dedicated swimwear while in pools. Food and drinks and all glass containers are not allowed on the pool deck. 8. ID’s - All users will have on their person; their current Blazer One VU ID card at all times, and will present it upon entering, to the appropriate building employee. 9. AppropriateClothing/Footwear- a. Clothing: While using Aquatic Center facilities, proper attire is required for all males and females. All users are to wear clean, dedicated swimwear. This is a family-friendly facility; lifeguards will answer questions regarding whether your swimwear is acceptable. Non-swimwear is not acceptable, including t-shirts, cut-offs, etc. b. Footwear: Proper clean, non-marking footwear will be worn. 10. Behavior-Whileinthefacilities,userswillfollowbehavioralexpectationsoftheUniversity. a. Basketball Dunking is allowed, however, hanging on or breaking down the rim is abusive and excessive, and therefore will not be allowed. b. Foul Language and Profanity not allowed in the Aquatic Center. c. Any student or user caught fighting will be asked to leave the facility and may face suspension of use and University reprimands. 11. Smoking/Tobacco - This is a tobacco free facility (Smoking and chewing). Chewing inside the facility will not be tolerated. 12.
