College Choir
The choral program at Bakersfield College has a long history of excellence.
Over 50 years ago the BC Choir was the first American choir to win the mixed
choir competition at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales.
The choirs at BC continue this tradition of excellence. College Choir is a large
choir composed of students of all skill levels. The choir sings music across all
styles and genres and performs in four concerts a year. One of those
performances is with the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra. Participation
includes study of major choral literature of all the historical periods. The students learn and demonstrate the basics of sight
singing and music theory as they expand their abilities and develop a musical foundation.
Chamber Singers
Chamber Singers is a small auditioned group of students and alumni that perform challenging repertoire of all historical periods
and styles. Chamber Singers and College Choir perform two concerts per semester with sold-out crowds. The choirs perform
with the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra at least once a year. Chamber Singers can also be found at other events at BC such
as football games, rallies, New Student Convocation, and more. In the community they entertain at Rotary Clubs, luncheons,
dinner parties, and many other community events. Chamber Singers hosts a high school Chamber Singers Festival in the Fall
which includes a guest conductor from outside of California and attends the USC Choral Invitational every Spring. The BC
Chamber Singers are also proud to represent Bakersfield College on a national as well as international stage. In 2013 they
performed with Eric Whitacre in New York’s Carnegie Hall. Next they toured Italy in the summer of 2015. Chamber Singers’
next destination is Australia’s Sydney Opera House in July of 2018.
