Student Policies
As a student at Bemidji State University it is important that you are aware of the policies and procedures that relate to many aspects of
your life at the university, in and out of the classroom. These policies are principles intended to support a safe, respectful, and ethical
living, learning and work environment in compliance with the University’s mission and values and applicable state, local, and federal
law. All Bemidji State University faculty, staff, and students are expected to be familiar with and abide by the University’s policies. A full

Student Code of Conduct
The BSU Student Code of Conduct and Student Conduct System are an integral part of Bemidji State University’s mission. The student
conduct system contributes to the teaching of appropriate individual and group behavior and establishes behavioral expectations to
foster a campus community free from disruption and harm. Students are expected to be familiar with the Student Code of Conduct
and the Student Conduct System. The rights and responsibilities of students and the expectations of the university are described in
this handbook, along with grievance and other procedures. Behavior that is threatening to the safety or welfare of one’s self or others,
or that is harassing or discriminatory in nature, will be reviewed promptly by the university and appropriate action will be taken.

Sexual Violence
A safe and healthy educational environment is important to the mission and values of Bemidji State University. The Sexual Violence
Policy developed by the University provides clear, concise and specific information to all members of our learning community. Sexual
violence is an intolerable intrusion into the most personal and private rights of an individual, and is prohibited at Bemidji State
University. The University is committed to eliminating sexual violence in all forms and will take appropriate remedial action against any
individual found responsible for acts in violation of the Sexual Violence policy. Bemidji State University’s Affirmative Action Officer/
Title IX Coordinator investigates sexual violence complaints. Acts of sexual violence may also constitute violations of criminal or civil
law, which may require separate proceedings external to the university. To further its commitment against sexual violence, Bemidji
State University provides multiple reporting options, an investigative and disciplinary process, and prevention training or other related

Submit an Anonymous Complaint
To submit an anonymous complaint, visit the Affirmative Action website at:

Select “Reporting a Sexual Violence Incident” from the left column, then select “Submit an Anonymous Complaint” in upper right side
of page. If you wish to make a formal University Security or police report, OR if this is an EMERGENCY, immediately contact BSU Public
Safety at (218) 755-3888 or the Bemidji Police Department by dialing 911. Contacting police does not require you to pursue legal action.
Student Technology Policy
Access to the university network is a privilege that comes with both rights and responsibilities. All persons that use university
technology resources are required to abide by the policies specified in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees
Acceptable Use of Computers and Information Technology Resources. Restricted activities include copyright infringement and
anonymous file sharing. Bemidji State University takes a strong stand against unlawful distribution of copyrighted music, movies and
software. The University responds to copyright infringement notices from copyright owners who do actively search for such materials

Advising Success Center
The Advising Success Center is located in Decker Hall 202 and can be reached by phone or email at (218) 755-4226 or advising@
bemidjistate.edu. The Advising Success Center is an advising and registration resource for all students. It is responsible for making
advisor assignments, assisting students who are conditionally admitted to the university as well as those on academic warning and
academic probation, providing academic and referral information for students to ensure academic success. The ASC also coordinates
the First Year Experience program and offers Peer Tutoring and Peer Advising services.
