    PUBLIC SAFETY
255 University Blvd. 843.349.2177 (nonemergency) publicsafety@coastal.edu coastal.edu/safety
I heard CCU has its own police department. How can I get in contact with them in case of an emergency? The police department, a part of the Department of Public Safety on CCU’s campus, is located on campus across from Baxley Hall. In the event of an emergency, you should call 843.349.2911; go ahead and put this number in your phone now.
If you do not have this number and call 911 for an on-campus emergency, you will reach the Horry County dispatch center, and then they will transfer you to CCU’s police department. By doing so, it will just take a little longer to get your call where it needs to go.
Yes, all students are required to register their bikes if they will be parked anywhere on campus; this includes University Place. In the event that your bike went missing and is found, it is helpful for our Public Safety officers to be able to quickly link that bike back to you.
Do I need to purchase a permit to park on campus?
Yes, all vehicles that park on campus are required to have a parking pass. You can purchase your pass on the Public Safety website (coastal.edu/safety).
I have paid for my parking pass; why did I get a parking ticket?
Just because you purchase a parking pass does not mean you can park anywhere
on campus. It is important for students to familiarize themselves with where they may and may not park. A parking map is located on the Public Safety website. After 5 p.m. during the week and anytime on the weekends, students may park in any legal parking space on campus, except those spots indicated as 24-hour.
PUBLIC SAFETY
Do I need to register my bike?
I have a late class and don’t feel safe walking across campus. Can I get an escort at night?
Absolutely. Coastal Carolina’s Public Safety department is more than just a police force. They provide escorts between on- campus locations, as well as many other services (listed below).
In the event of an emergency, how does CCU let me know?
To disseminate information to the University community during campus emergencies, the University uses CCU Alert. This is a text and email distribution system enabling the University to send information regarding emergencies (including weather cancellations and delays) instantly and simultaneously to all registered cellphones, email addresses and other electronic devices. There is
• Blue emergency light responses
• Vehicle trouble (car lockouts, jumps,
etc.)
• Parking regulation
• Women’s self-defense classes • Bicycle/property registration • Alert services
To learn about or utilize any of these services, check out their website or call the non-emergency Public Safety phone number.
no charge to register for this service; however, any text message fees from your service provider may apply. To receive these messages, you must sign up annually at coastal.edu/ccualert.
