Students Rights and Responsibilities
Carl Sandburg College recognizes that students are citizens as well as members of
an academic community. As a citizen, each student has the freedoms of speech,
assembly, association, the press and the rights of petition and due process,
which are guaranteed by the state and federal constitutions. As members of an
academic community, students have the right and responsibility for participating
in the formulation and review of all college regulations and policies directly
affecting them. Upon enrolling in the College, each student assumes an obligation
to conduct himself/herself in a manner that is compatible with the College’s
function as an educational institution. If this obligation is neglected or ignored by
the student, the College must, in the interest of fulfilling its function and meeting
its total obligations, institute appropriate disciplinary action as outlined in the Carl
Sandburg College Policies and Regulations Manual.
Student Code of Conduct
The College expects from its students a higher standard of conduct than the
minimum required to avoid disciplinary action. Students are expected to obey
the law, to show respect for properly constituted authority, to perform contractual
