Changes to the BOG waiver program beginning Fall 2016
Beginning Fall 2016, California Community College students receiving
BOG fee waivers will have to be meeting minimum academic and progress
standards to remain eligible for the BOG waiver under new regulations
adopted by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors.
The new policy is a key component of the Board of Governors’ Student
Success Initiative as a result of the passing of Senate Bill 1456, The
Student Success Act of 2012. The new regulations will work in conjunction
with statewide enrollment priorities that will go into effect in Fall 2016. The
purpose of the Student Success Act is to focus on helping new students
define their goals and stay on track to achieve those goals, California
Community Colleges are putting in place more counseling and other
support services to help students define their educational and career goals
and stay on track to achieve them.
Under the new regulations, students would lose eligibility for the Board of
Governors Fee Waiver and priority registration if they are placed on
dismissal for not maintaining a 2.0 GPA or successfully completing half of
their attempted units for two consecutive primary terms.
Students will be notified by the Counseling Office of their probation status within
30 days of the end of the term for which they did not meet the standards, as
well as the support services that are available to them on campus. After the
second consecutive term of probation, you may lose eligibility for the fee waiver
and priority registration at your next registration opportunity.
Academic — Sustain a GPA of 2.0 or higher
If your cumulative GPA falls below 2.0 for two consecutive primary terms
(fall/spring semesters), you may lose your fee waiver eligibility and priority
registration.
Progress — Complete more than 50% of your coursework
If the cumulative number of units you complete is not more than 50% in two
consecutive primary terms (fall/spring semesters), you may lose your fee
waiver eligibility and priority registration.
Combination of Academic and Progress Standards
Any combination of two consecutive terms of cumulative GPA below 2.0,
and/or cumulative unit completion of not more than 50% may result in loss
of fee waiver eligibility and priority registration.
