Media Policy
Occasionally students, faculty, and staff may be photographed, interviewed,
and/or identified for publication, broadcast transmission, and/or electronic
display by the news media or school / district public relations officials. All
releases will be performed in accordance with school district policy and
privacy laws. As required, only “directory” type information will be
provided. This includes name, school, grade level, teacher, participation in
officially recognized activities, etc. Parents or students who have questions or
concerns should contact the school principal.
Parent/Guardian Communications
Parents and guardians may receive the following types of communications
from administrators, teachers, and other staff members: Phone calls, notes,
letters, post cards (only positive, non-confidential information), and email.
School personnel need current phone information (home, cell, and work
numbers) and address information (home and Internet) from parents and
guardians in order to foster success for students. Parents are encouraged to
access teachers’ web pages and email teachers for information:

Parent/Student Portal
Parents and guardians of students in Spartanburg School District Five are able
to view student progress through Parent Portal. The system brings together
teachers, students, parents and administrators in a web-based data system. It
may be accessed from any place with Internet access. You can find the link
for Parent Portal on the J. F. Byrnes website. The application uses a secure
link that encrypts the data to and from the end user and is very secure.
Parent access to Parent Portal will be by unique login ID (username) and
password. For families with more than one child in the District, a separate
parent username and pas
sword will be provided for access to each child’s
information. The parent/guardian ID and password may be obtained in person.
The login information may be acquired at registration, open house, or in the
guidance office.
Parent Portal allows parents to see the following:
Student’s schedule
Student’s attendance
Any grades entered into teacher’s grade book
Any comments entered for grades by teachers
Final grades
